Refresher of some dances

Submitted by Anna de Wilde on July 6, 2012 - 1:01pm

Since Katherina Weyssin is away - I have been asked to teach dance for the next two weeks.

Attended dance - Anna de Wilde and Catrine de Vantier

Unfortunately for one reason or another (mostly due to winter colds) several kind gentles contacted me before dance to advise that they were unable to attend.

So it was a good chance for Catrine and I to go over some of the dances we have learnt in the advanced class.

We did several run throughs of Ginevra, a bassedanse reconstructed by Katherina.

more 15th-century Italian

Submitted by Katherina Weyssin on June 22, 2012 - 12:50pm

Another lovely evening, and lots of dances. We didn't separate the evening so clearly into two sections as we sometimes do, because we started a bit late and everyone was having fun.

Present: Katherina Weyssin, Caterina Nuova, Christine Bess Duvaunt, William de Cameron, William de Wyke, Anna de Wilde.

We started with several simpler dances:

Wednesday (Meyer)

Submitted by Ludwig von Rege... on June 20, 2012 - 12:00am

A session on "The Rose".  We welcomed a new fencer, Sam, who after a few minutes tuition was thrown into the Pit of Reconstruction.

Devices from Langort (Longpoint):  We looked at some of these briefly last week.  As well as completing this section, I wanted to revisit the Rose.  Remember that these proceed from the bind.

Some longsword devices from Meyer, several featuring "the Rose".

Device from Nebenhut (Side guard), in this case on the right: If your opponent cuts at your opening..., then spring out with right foot to his left and cut with crossed hands above and behind his blade at his head.

The Bloth Feast Menu

Submitted by Vettoria di Gio... on June 9, 2012 - 4:50pm

Please find below the menu for the Bloth Feast. It is a late 16th century Italian style feast served in three courses. I am using the majority of the available Italian cooking sources, although I rely primarily on Scappi and Messisbugo; I primarily use the French Nostradamus for my candy recipes.

For those with dietary requirements:

- Any meat dishes have an ^ next to them - there are four in total

Bassadanze

Submitted by Katherina Weyssin on June 4, 2012 - 11:35am

It seems we were in the mood for 15th century Italian dances. Katherina was a little under the weather, so William de Cameron took on much of the evening's teaching, ably assisted by Anna. Thanks!
