Katherina Weyssin's blog

Greg, Christine and Katherina have been playing trios, with whatever instruments we had to hand. That meant Christine on a flute on the top line, Greg on trumpet on the middle line (transposing as he went - we didn't have a B-flat version of the music for him), and Katherina on the bottom line on either flute or tenor recorder.

All the pieces we tried were from Twenty-one Pieces Transcribed by Erich Katz, 1400-1630 (in Katherine's red folder labelled "Ren trios").

A good evening: mostly revision of dances that one or more of us would like to know better.

Open dances:

Another lovely evening, and lots of dances. We didn't separate the evening so clearly into two sections as we sometimes do, because we started a bit late and everyone was having fun.

We revised simpler material in the first hour, then did a group reconstruction of Sobria in the second.

A good evening - mostly revision of dances we've done before, but don't all know well.

It seems we were in the mood for 15th century Italian dances. Katherina was a little under the weather, so William de Cameron took on much of the evening's teaching, ably assisted by Anna. Thanks!

This is meant to be a first project for someone who wants to make renaissance bobbin-lace.

Another evening of brushing up things we've not done for a while, so as to be ready for next weekend's ball.
