Dancing Blind

Submitted by Katherina Weyssin on May 26, 2013 - 9:57am

Many of our usual dances, with a few twists.

Present: Eleanor, Anna, Katherina, William, Katherine, Caterine

  • Amoroso
  • Rostiboli Gioioso
  • Cassandra
  • Anello
  • Gelosia
  • Bassa Colonna
  • Rustica Amorosa
  • Queen's Almain
  • Black Almain

We experimented with dancing with our eyes closed, to practice leading a partner, and being lead. First, a branle with every second person with their eyes closed; then Amoroso, adapted so you never leave your partner (everyone does all the steps, side by side, holding hands), with one in each pair with their eyes closed.

It was an interesting exercise in taking information from your partner when the visual cues are removed, and in selecting a path that is safe for your partner as well as yourself, and then communicating it to them. Confronting, but worthwhile.
