Tuesday Tunes Music session - 5th February 2019
Present:
Katherine of Glastonbury, harp
Elyna Delynor, alto rebec and harp
Emily of Ildhafn, soprano recorder
Sympkyn of the Moor, hammered dulcimer
Debbie of Ildhafn, tenor recorder
Tunes played:
- Cantiga 119
Sheet music HERE. Old favourite for a warm up.
- Cantiga 36
Sheet music HERE. Also very familiar to most of us.
- Cantiga 353 - new to some!
Arrangement available HERE. Dulcimer taking the second line and recorder trialling the third. If in doubt, learn the melody.
- Cantiga 278 - still new!
Sheet music HERE. Just learning straight melody for now. Harps have a basic degree of chord structure worked out.
- Laudemus Virginem
A cute little canon from the Red Book. Learned by ear.
- Earl of Essex Measures
Another old favourite. Sheet music HERE.
- Stella Splendens
Version used is on page 66 of the SNOGBOOK. Note that after bar 34 we hold for another bar, so effectively the minim D and A become four beats long. Similarly when we repeat from the start, the very last bar also becomes four beats. We customarily play a chorus to finish, after the last verse.
- Il Canario
Another good one to learn by ear. Sheet music is also available.
***NOTE: Anybody who is not able to make the group sessions but wants to be involved in these musical endeavours PLEASE email me - we can talk about how we can fit things together remotely!
ALSO NOTE: We practice weekly at 7.30pm on Tuesday, and take the school holidays off.
Email me on music@ildhafn.lochac.sca.org for address.
Newcomers and casual drop-ins are very welcome :)
Regards,
Elyna Delynor
