Music session - 22nd May 2017

Present:

Sympkyn of the Moor, hammered dulcimer
Katherine of Glastonbury, harp, bray harp, psaltery
Elena y Delyn, bray harp, alto rebec, psaltery
Katherina Weyssin, soprano, alto, tenor, and bass recorder, guitar
Emrys Tudor, violin, viola d'amore
Yvonne Gwynn, viol da gamba, soprano rebec, tenor recorder

Tunes played:

Warmed up with Earl of Essex Measures.

Then we revisited Pease Bransle. Most of us now have this reasonably comfortably under the fingers. Quite a nice one to attempt without dots as the tune itself is not too long and a pretty regular pattern.

Next we played New Almain which we hadn't done for a while. Key change makes it challenging for some instruments (unlevered harps and psaltery) but we solve this by having recorders and/or the dulcimer leading the melody. No worries.

After that it was Cantiga Time! Number 36 and then number 119.

Finally we did Scots Bransle as a final flurry. Very very difficult to not let the speed gain momentum on this one. Even when we don't specifically intend it to, it tends to snowball... which is pretty fun!

On behalf of the Monday Night Crew may I take this opportunity to bid a fond farewell to Yvonne, as this was her last session... you will be missed!
Wishing you all the best on your adventures in Canada and looking forward to hearing about all the awesome times you will have - and when you return home you can totally have all your instruments back again, promise ;)
