Duchesco

Submitted by Katherina Weyssin on November 14, 2014 - 11:17am

A group reconstruction of Duchesco, and practice for the balls and St. Caths and Canterbury Faire.

For the first hour:

  • Ly bens distonys
  • Hay branle (for 4)
  • Contentezza d'Amore
  • La figlia di Guglielmino
  • La Castellana (at a range of speeds, including very very fast indeed)

For the second hour:

  • Duchesco
  • Gioioso in tre
  • Triory
  • Amoroso

We worked through Duchesco, using Barbara Sparti's translation of Guglielmo Ebreo's De pratica seu arte tripudii, and the music on Eschewynge of Ydlenesse, by Gaita. Next week, we'll see if Smith's concordance sheds any light on the tricky points (it survives in six MSS).

It's a nice ballo for three, in single file; fairly short, with only a few points where the reconstruction is ambiguous.
