Saint Catherine's Feast

Date and Time:
Saturday, November 27, 2010 - 16:00 to 23:00

As is traditional in the lands of Ildhafn, we will be celebrating the feast of Saint Catherine. Although some years this is an extravagant affair, this year's celebrations will be a little more modest as we relax in the afterglow of July Coronation. Split over the two days of the weekend of November 27th and 28th 2010, this will still be an event not to miss!

Saturday late afternoon sees the hall opened for dancing, games and an arts & sciences display (including the Baronial competition), followed by a sumptuous feast cooked by our very own Lord Androu le Greyn.

Rough Schedule for Saturday:

  • from 1pm:  set-up crew will decorate hall
  • 4pm:          the festivities begin
  • 4-7pm:      dancing, games, Arts and Sciences display and competition
  • 7pm:          the feast begins
  • 7-10pm:     feasting, singing, revelry
  • 10-11pm:   pack up and go home

On Sunday, in Cornwall Park, there will be both heavy combat and rapier tournaments to test the mettle of the Barony's fine militia.

Rough Schedule for Sunday

  • 11am               meet, set up
  • 11:30-12:30    fencing tournament
  • 1-2pm             picnic lunch - bring something to share
  • 2-3pm             armoured tournament (if there is sufficient interest), fencing and heavy fighting practice, perhaps music and singing, and whatever else pleases us

Cost: $30 per adult, + $2 non SCA members
Children: 0-5 free; 6-10: $10; 11-16: $20

Note that there is no charge to attend the tourneys on the Sunday; a contribution for a potluck picnic is encouraged. If the weather is too bad for a picnic, I email a cancellation notice to the Ildhafn email list, and to those who have booked for the event, by 9am on Sunday morning.

Saturday's dancing, games and feast will be held in the St George's Church Hall, Lake Road, Takapuna (Auckland).

Sunday's tournaments and pot luck lunch will be held in Cornwall Park, Green Lane West (Auckland) at the Band Rotunda.

Bookings for the feast will close a week before the event, on Friday the 19th of November. After that you may attend, but you will be fed
(and seated) strictly at the cook's discretion. Bookings are not required for the Sunday activities (though it would be helpful to have
an idea of who intends to fight).

The booking form is available here, please mark out the dates in your calendar now, finish that new outfit before it's the last minute, and tell your friends to come along!
