I'd like to hold a small May Day event to celebrate the SCA's 48th birthday.

It will be similar in nature to Caterine's Collation event. Details so far:

Date: Saturday 4th May 2013

Time: 11am - 4pm

Venue: The Wintergardens, Auckland Domain

What: A picnic, May Garland making, Hobby Horse races (TBC), other games

Cost: $15 members, $17 non-members - this includes $8 for lunch, $5 for garland materials, $1 Kingdom Levy, $1 Miscellaneous

Bookings will close 2 weeks before the event (20th April). Bookings will not be confirmed until payment is received as all costs are for food and materials.

The Wintergardens are open to the public so there may be people wandering past, but I see this as an opportunity to advertise ourselves and potentially attract newcomers. I did look at hiring the Wintergardens after hours, but they charge an hourly rate of $54 PLUS a flat fee of $465 for a Security Guard to re-open and close the gardens.  Thought that would be out of our price range!

There is space on the lawn just outside the Wintergardens should anyone wish to partake in some rapier practise.

As it is in May, and nearing the start of winter, there is always the issue of bad weather causing problems, but I think having a rain date of the next day - Sunday 5th May (as per Collation) at the Wintergardens if fine, at my place if wet.
