This session was started by me deciding that we needed to learn More Bransles...

So we started off with the Single Bransle. I note this is also referred to as the Knot bransle or the Tangle bransle, no doubt because of what happens when you dance it. The sheet music I've seen varies and there is a version out there starting the melody on an A, but we are starting it on what appears to be the original G with Bs in the melody flattened and the second to last note being an accidental F#. (In modern terms, we play it in G minor.)

As usual, not using sheet music is encouraged, if one is playing either melody or simple enough accompaniment :)

The logical progression was to try the Double Bransle next. This worked equally well in the same pitch/key/etc, once we remembered how the jolly tune went. Will revise both of these at the next opportunity as they're both new and not yet stuck in the brain.

Also in this category is the Montarde Bransle, which we've played but need to solidify - we ran through it well enough but it will need practice. Again the sheet music I've seen for this has it moved down a tone, in modern terms it is written down in A minor rather than what appears to be the original G minor... I don't know why and we see no reason not to keep it where originally written... so we are playing it starting on a G.

Finally we revised Madame Sosilia, who still needs a bit of careful handling.

Will be revisiting all the above next time.

**Reminder**

Future music sessions will take place on TUESDAYS rather than Mondays. Same venue (email me for address), same time (7.30pm - 9.30pm).
Newcomers are very welcome :)
Regards,
Elena y Delyn
