Title: Norse Garb
I was graciously welcomed into the Royal Household for the reign of Konungr Þorvaldr and Dróttning Amabilia. As their reign was Norse-themed, I was encouraged to garb myself appropriately in the ‘one true way’ of Norse, or at the very least, early period. The ‘something else’ in this instance is thus being a member of the Royal Household! In truth, it was simply an excuse to make more garb. I wanted these garments to be flexible for the general norse/anglo-saxon range, and be useful casual additions to my wardrobe.
I therefore handsewed these two outfits, out of linen and wool, using linen and silk thread. I love the drape and lightness of the yellow linen, and it has quickly become my favourite under-dress. I am particularly proud of my fabric conservation for the green wool with linen trim dress. I had only a tiny remanent, and therefore cut the armpit gussets out of the neckhole. This resulted in the necessity for the yellow linen neckhole facing, which I also placed at the hem and sleeves, to extend the length of the garment. The hangarok was similarly made from a very small remanent of fabric, and you can see the selvedge edge down one side.
