Tablet-weaving workshop

These photo's are from Caterine de Vantier.

Amalie von Brisach, of Southron Gaard (Christchurch) taught an afternoon workshop on tablet weaving at Caterine de Vantier's house. Tablet weaving was widely used in the middle ages to produce decorative bands for trim, ribbons, lacing points, vestments and more. Amalie's speciality is brocaded tablet weaving, but for this workship she just taught us the basics. It's a useful technique for re-enactors, because you can produce beautiful, historically-accurate ribbons with limited space and equipment.
