Title: Portolan chart of Lochac
Portolan chart hand drawn using pencil and inks (and a little bit of paint) on heavy weight paper (the frame and glass are modern and not part of the process but to protect the finished result). Rhumb lines were created through multiple bisections of the initial vertical and horizontal lines and connecting the points.

Portolan charts were developed initially around the 13th century to aid longer voyages where the course can follow one of the rhumb lines shown. There were limitations on the distance the chart was effective with 2,000 nautical miles about the extent. Depending on scale also includes navigational hazards.
The original of this chart was gifted to Mistress Christine.
