31st October 2016

Submitted by Elyna Delynor on October 31, 2016 - 11:16pm

Last week there was no official session due to it being Labour Weekend and most of us being at camp Braythwayte til late Monday... a fair whack of music was played there unofficially however :)

Session Notes - 31st October 2016

Present:

Sympkyn of the Moor, hammered dulcimer
Katherine of Glastonbury, harp
Katherina Weyssin, various sized recorders
Emrys Tudor, violin and viola
Elena Harper, bray harp

Tunes played

Given that the Bal d'Argent is this weekend, we basically played through the proposed playlist for that...

- Ballo del Fiore
- Belle Qui
- Earl of Essex Measures
- Black Almain
for warm ups.

Then:
- Amoroso
- Galliard
- Ly Bens
- Washerwoman's bransle
- Pinagay
- Scots bransle
All technically still on the 'working' list but coming on nicely.

Some (Black Almain, Ballo del Fiore, Amoroso, and the three bransles) we need to remember to consciously hike the speed up a bit.

Washerwoman's and Scots bransle are generally played starting at a quite leisurely pace for a bransle, and gradually cranking the speed up until it falls apart amidst shrieks of laughter.

Pinagay has been turned evil by way of randomising the number of 'kick' passages in the second part of the tune, from the usual three kicks to an arbitrary number of kicks decided on the spot. Dancers beware!

Let's enjoy this weekend! See you all there I hope :)
