Labour Weekend

Date and Time:
Friday, October 24, 2014 - 16:00 to Monday, October 27, 2014 - 16:00

Come and relax and slip back into your favourite century for 3 days of camaraderie among friends.

This is a do-as-you-please event with no set timetable. Just bring your projects, weapons, toys, musical instruments, tools etc and get involved in whatever is going on.

Bookings now closed:

Accommodation and camping options:

 1.        Period tents in the living history camp. The Braythwayte pavilion is available if anyone wants to use it as we will be staying in the house. Otherwise it can be used as a social area, A&S tent, or whatever.

 2.        Plastic tents on the back lawn.

 3.        In the house. There are 2 double rooms available with preference given to those who need them. We will also use the lounge as a ‘camping barn’ for those who cannot bring a tent and don’t mind sharing with others.

Catering and cooking options:

Cooked breakfasts (porridge, bacon/sausage, eggs, mushrooms and bread and butter) will be provided for everyone. Those opting for the living history camp can come to the house and grab some breakfast or ingredients if they want to cook it themselves over the camp fire. Bring your own coffee. Tea bags and milk for drinks will be provided.

OTHER THAN BREAKFASTS THIS IS A SELF CATERING EVENT.

Oh, there is one exception: one of the Braythwayte sheep has ‘volunteered’ to be roasted over the spit to feed everyone if there is someone willing to organise the spit-turners and a carver.

For those on the A&S project option, please note that the house kitchen is not available unless someone has volunteered to cook for anyone who wants to chip in with the appropriate $$. Rotorua has lots of good eateries catering for all budgets and tastes.

For those cooking in the period encampment, there will be the campfire plus a separate small fire to heat water in the cauldron plus a ‘medieval BBQ’ with hot plate, mini spit (ideal for roast chicken or a joint of meat) and an area for heating pots. You are welcome to have your own cooking fire provided the grass is replaced neatly when you pack up.

Firewood is available free of charge.

Cost:

The cost for the weekend is $15/adult and $10/youth (5-15) . (16 and 17 yr olds pay as adult). Under 5s free
